Googlemap addon goes live

As of today my photoblog runs the latest development version of the Googlemap addon (click to see it in action). I’m pretty happy how it all has turned out considering the major overhaul of the code. There are some minor issues to be fixed like for instance the clustering method. Currently clustering is done based upon a limit of visible markers. When that limit has been reached the clustering stops. So sometimes a single marker appears nearby a cluster. Like Piotr mentioned it would be nicer to add that marker to the cluster as well.

Another thing is the latest picture. This marker really ought to be on top of all the other markers. Currently it is not, so I have to fix that. But there are also things working great: the new Lightbox approach over the interface (click on “click to view” in the sidebar if an image has coordinates), the improved adminpanel and the faster loading times.

I’m also happy with the new marker images: Marker.
They add some more distinction to the fact markers have been clustered in that area. The idea comes from this book, which has tons of information about the Google Map API.

I’m still not sure if I will ever make this addon public and I must say that the lack of responses at my last post are not pushing my mind in a different direction.

Pixelpost addon: Googlemap

It has been on my list for quite some time. One of my first addons, the GoogleMap addon needed a complete overhaul. The code was bloated, difficult to follow, hard to update and it had leftovers of things I tried in the past.

The addon is nearly finished, dropping nearly 100kb in total size. There are new markers for cluster images, the maps in the adminpanel will load automatically, the old clustering method has been dropped and replaced by a serverside clustering with an AJAX call to get the points. And the list goes on and on.

Another cool feature I’m trying out is the Mootools Lightbox approach for Googlemaps. I’m still working on it but I really wanted to show an example of how it looks:

However, I’m still wondering if I should release this version to the public. You wouldn’t believe the amount of hours I spend on this in the last three months and I’m not sure if I’m willing to give this thing away.
