I spend the majority of today running various backup schemes, just to be sure I won’t be losing important data that easily. Sure, it is a nuisance and it does take time, but I do remember the time I lost my complete photoblog and I had to restore it from my backups.
If you haven’t created a backup lately this might be a good time.
While browsing through my music collection I rediscovered a lot of songs with memories attached. Funny how that goes, how a certain song can remind you of a certain period of your life (good or bad).
Currently I have found the memories attached to these songs most pleasing:
Nelly – Hot in Here: reminds me of my 2002 trip Chapel Hill, NC. The song was the hottest on the radio that month and boy, it was hot indeed (both the song and the temperature).
Bonnie Tyler – Total Eclipse of the Heart: Try to imagine a nearly empty discotheque, just two persons on the dance floor, a boy and a girl. The DJ just dims the lights and throws this number in his German Hardstyle set. Seriously, it was as romantic as it gets.
Bruce Springsteen – The River: While I was a lot younger, I guess some 20+ years ago, we went to the German ‘Schwarzwald‘ on holiday and I had this Sony Walkman that used tapes. Nowadays with all the iPods and such MP3 players this sounds unbelievable but that is what we used at the time. This song was on the tape and happened to be one of my favorites during that holiday. Imagine the difficulties of putting that song on repeat for a while.
What music jogs your memory? Let me know in the comments.
After waiting for more than two weeks for a response from several parties I’ve decided to go public with this story. This is a true story which hasn’t been resolved yet as all parties give me the silence treatment.
How does it start?
At August 11th, 2008 I purchase the Nike+ sportband at the Intersport Superstore Roden, based of Roden, The Netherlands. In the first few months, prior to the basketball season, I use it at a regular basis. During this time it registers several runs of a total of 65 km.
During the basketball season I stopped running, waiting for spring to pick it up again. Unfortunately I sprained my ankle in March, which forced me to put the running of until June this year. While gathering my gear for the first run of 2009 I noticed something is wrong with the display. It seems several white spots have turned up, making the display hard to read. This is the point where my quest begins.
Normally I would have gone back to the store, claiming my warranty. Unfortunately this store is located about a 2.5 hour drive from where I’m located right now, so it will cost me a fair amount of gasoline and most of the day to get it replaced under warranty.
The image above was found on Jay Williams’s Addendum while catching up with my feeds. The problem with being quite busy is I needed to prioritize the things I have to get done and reading my feeds ended up way at the bottom. Today I finally got some time and upon seeing this little gem I felt it warrants a repost. So here you have it, and just like the internet, it never gets old.
Being a man I’m obviously not a sucker for marriage proposals but the proposal in the embedded YouTube flick is really nice.
This guy definitely has raised the bar for every man and all marriage proposals after this.
Thanks to Oz for pointing this out. Anyway, I can’t hold a decent tune, so the chances of catching me singing a proposal are non-existent.
update: Thanks to Jay, who pointed me to another site, we now know it is a fake.
Update: Since this ran, we’ve received information from a tipster informing us that the video is a fake: the actress who plays “Erika” has a different boyfriend In Real Life. Which means that this is, indeed, purely for PR, and the Lamest Scam Ever.
Nevertheless, the actress who plays “Erika” does really a nice job expressing emotions from joy till looking freighting. IMHO she deserves an honorable mention for an Oscar.
