UNC advances to the Final 4

March 30, 2008

Today I got up at 2 am in the morning to watch the UNC – Louisville game on NCAA March Madness on Demand. It was really cool to watch a college game live (finally, we never see those games here).

The first half was really exiting with UNC easily breaking both Louisville press and 2-3 zone. UNC hit the offensive boards real well and cruised out to a comfortable 12 point lead at the half.

At the start of the second half Louisville put down a nice little run and actually cut down the lead. Most of the second half the teams were trading baskets until the last 5 minutes of the game. Clark from Louisville made three consecutive travel violations and Tyler Hansbrough from UNC was amazing taking the Tarheels on his back towards the Final 4. I really love Tyler’s style and heart. He never gives up.

The last minutes of the game Louisville sends UNC to the freethrow line on numerous occasions. UNC was shooting 16-19 at that point from the line so no problem there.

UNC wins 83 -73 and Hansbrough was the highpoint man with 28 points and 13 rebounds. =D

UNC advances to the Elite 8

March 28, 2008

Yesterday the men’s basketball team of the University of North Carolina advanced to the Elite 8 of this years NCAA tournament by defeating the Washington Cougars 68 – 47. They are really on a roll now doing things at both ends of the floor, advancing for the second straight year into the Elite 8.

I have been a fan of UNC for a long time now, I even spend my summer on campus in 2002 while doing research for the EPA. I managed to see the 2005 finals and I was thrilled to see UNC capture the title. After that the program went slightly downhill but this year it looks like they might pull it off again. I’ll be rooting for UNC this saturday when they take on Louisville. You can watch the game on NCAA March Madness on Demand.

Go Tarheels!!

Update for the DBManager addon

March 22, 2008
pixelpost.png

Today a new version for the DBManager Addon is released. Basically I got tired of manually optimizing my tables over and over again. The solution was quite simple: I removed the manual optimization tab from the addon interface and added an automatic optimization of all tables. Now the optimization is performed whenever you log into your admin-panel.

This optimization is a smart optimization, this means it performs optimization of all tables only when it is necessary. So provided you login at your admin-panel on regularly basis, your tables are always optimized. Download it from the addon page.

I’m slowly updating my addons to include a link to check for updates (courtesy of versioncheckr.com) and fixing minor things (if needed).

More Photoshop news

March 21, 2008

Adobe Photoshop CS3 After months of debating and saving money I finally got Adobe Photoshop CS3. As mentioned in the post below I also bought Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3, which was kind of weird because I didn’t have CS3 at the time. But now I do! Big thanks goes out to Jay Williams over at D3 Designs for really pushing me and helping to find stuff on the web (among other things): so, thanks mate!

Today I want to leave you with two nice links (courtesy of PhotoshopUser TV).

  • Photoshop Disasters: a blog about showing what happens if you use to much Photoshop
  • DIYPhotography: a site devoted to help other photographers to make cheap affordable photography equipment

Well, I gotta go back experimenting with Photoshop again. :-D

Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3

March 18, 2008

7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3Today I found a little surprise in my mailbox: Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3. I’m pretty anxious to work with this as I haven’t set up a proper Photoshop workflow just yet.

That reminds me, I still haven’t setup a steady Lightroom workflow as well. I have to admit I normally do stuff in a certain order but I’m not sure if that could be considered a workflow or not. ;-) Anyway, judging by the description this book will come in quite handy:

Imagine being able to open any image in Photoshop CS3, and know exactly what to do first, what to do second, and how to take it all the way from “Flat to Fabulous” just like a pro.

That’s the groundbreaking premise behind this book, from Photoshop User magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Scott Kelby (the world’s #1 bestselling Adobe Photoshop author), who rewrites the rules for teaching Photoshop by whittling the photo correction process down to just the seven most important, most essential techniques.

You got to admit that sounds real good. Well, I gotta go. I have some reading to do. =D
