Googlemaps update
February 26, 2008Over the last few weeks I made quite a few improvements to the Googlemaps addon for Pixelpost. Today I finally managed to do something that has been on the list for nearly a year now. When you click a clustered marker you will get an infowindow containing a Flickr like scrolling element.
For those of you interested in what it looks like, here is a screenshot:

Other improvements include a more logical way of clustering based upon K-Means++, clusters are stored in the database in a real nice hierarchical system, and real nice icons for the new cluster method. Ow, and did I mention it works in Firefox, Safari and the dreadful Internet Explorer?
I’m still thinking if I’m planning to leave the earlier clustermethod in the addon or if I delete it. I tend towards deleting the method and all options related to it since the K-Means is far more superior.
Anyway, I updated the version on my blog to the latest development version. Check it out here.
Please note this addon is not available to the general public, and I’m doubtful it will ever be. With the amount of support lately chances are pretty slim.

Anton | March 19, 2008Hi Dennis, the K-Means++ clustering is awsome man.
It sure beats Google Earth annoying click clusters, it’s better than Flickr clusters and prettier than http://loc.alize.us
So perfect, so web 2.0. Like a pretty CSS-ed tagcloud.
I also like very much the filmstrip, it’s very convenient.
Not to fond of the lightbox option though, but that’s a personal preference.
I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed about feedback on your work..
One thing you should really do is include a Paypal donate link in your addon, I would be more than happy to donate a few euro’s for updates and support. Create something for people to ask for more and give you something in return.
At the moment, with the few hours a week I have, I am just working on my Pixelpost on localhost and I was surprised how complete your v2.0 comes out the box. I used to have a wordpress blog with a google map plugin, and it didn’t come any near your addon.
When I have more time to use your addon I talk to you later, I had this idea about pulling the location (city, state, country) from geonames.org for non geo-savvy people. I use HoudahGeo on my Mac, which reverse-geocodes those into IPTC, so I’ll pull them from there, but an option like this would make your addon even more popular.
Respect, en hou je haaks
I really love the way you changed the old jbgMap
Nadja | March 21, 2008I really love the way you changed the old jbgMap (I am still using the old version)! I am sorry to hear too, that you will not release the new version. Did you already included the “use the exif data” for the position on the map? I bought a gps tool for my camera to use it with my blog and I just found out, that the current version does not support this… what a pitty.
Well, is there a possibility to buy your addon? Or high is the amount which would bring you again in the mood to work on the addon
?
Thank you so much,
Nadja
@Anton: we can probably work something out. I'm always interested
Dennis | March 21, 2008@Anton: we can probably work something out. I’m always interested in adding new things. As for the reading of the IPTC, Pixelpost’s third party library isn’t capable of doing this but I have been working on a new library which makes these things possible.
@Nadja: thanks for your comment. As you can see from the blogposts here I’m still actually working on a new version. The latest version of the GoogleMap addon (which can be downloaded from this page) probably is GPS enabled (I’m not sure though). It can read the tags from the EXIF if they are available. I suggest you check it out, upgrading from JBGMap should be a breeze. If not, please contact me and I will try to help you with it. (Remember, you might want to backup your database just in case prior to upgrading).
